Brand History
The Green Forest brand of environmentally friendly, recycled content household paper products was started in 1990 by Fort Howard, a medium-sized paper company based in Wisconsin. Green Forest immediately became very successful, particularly in the Midwest, the West Coast and the Northeast. The combination of environmental friendliness, excellent product quality and economical prices was popular from the outset. In 1997, Fort Howard merged with another paper company, James River. Three short years later, the newly merged Fort James company was purchased by Georgia-Pacific, one of the largest paper companies in the world. Amidst all the corporate changes, Green Forest became an "orphan brand". Within the Georgia-Pacific behemoth, Green Forest garnered little attention as a relatively small brand, its environmental characteristics did not keep pace with advancing "green" standards, and sales and distribution slipped to a point where the brand was in danger of disappearing entirely from the marketplace. In 2003, Planet Inc. saw an opportunity to rescue Green Forest. The plan was to rebuild Green Forest into a truly environmentally friendly green brand while continuing to offer products at an excellent value to consumers. After two years of researching, negotiating and looking for financing, Planet Inc. officially acquired Green Forest on April 1, 2005. One year later, we launched all new Green Forest products featuring upgraded environmental characteristics and fresh new packaging. We hope you thoroughly enjoy the all new Green Forest brand of products. Be sure to look at your local grocery and natural products stores for a selection of Green Forest environmentally friendly paper products! |
